Industrial Object for Non-Industrial People: Conclusion

Industrial Object for Non-Industrial People:
Conclusion to my project

"in conclusion to this project I have learnt that no matter what you build/make there are many thing to take into consideration, both to make an aesthetically pleasing product, and a practical product or even just as working progress towards another idea, there is need for consideration and re-evaluation."

"one of this thing I have learnt during this project is that it is a good idea to leave yourself enough time to be able to go back and alter or re-make things, if they break or don't work out perfectly first time around. during this project I have also learnt that I an a perfectionist an I like everything to be just right and I like the principal of giving something a practical purpose as well as aesthetic qualities."

"I am really pleased with my final outcome for this project and would be happy to display it in my home or sell the ideas and principal onto i designer or manufacturer for them to further develop an utilise my ideas."

Industrial Objects for Non-Industrial People: approaching my final outcome

Industrial Objects for Non-Industrial People:
approaching my final outcome

"My final piece consists of a frame work that follows the shapes and construction of the V2 Rocket Engine, as a base for a Chandelier. I have also added the addition of 3 extra to the underside if my structure, I am going to mount lights to the under side of my 1st main ring (the Largest ring) illuminating down from the underside of my main rocket design."

The Addition of lights to my design:

Wiring LED's for my Final Design:

Gluing the LED's to the Acrylic Ring base:

Testing out my Lights:

"My final chandelier will be hung the other way round, so that the lights are facing downwards."

"My 16 LED lights will give off a lot of light, but i have also designed it in coloured acrylic so that it can also be viewed as a sculptural display when the light are not on. by using coloured acrylic it will cast a hue of coloured light across the room when the sun shines on/ through it in the day time, as well as using it as a practical light at night."

"The overall shape of my chandelier is very similar too this light created by Thomas Zipp."

"Thomas zip has inspired be to add lights to my Chandelier that give off enough light to sufficiently illuminate the area beneath my chandelier/sculpture."

Industrial Objects for Non-Industrial People: Problem Solving

Industrial Objects for Non-Industrial People:
Problem Solving

"I have added extra sections into the side of my design, to better support the sides if my design, and prevent stress razors."

Industrial Object for Non-Industrial People: CAD Drawings

Industrial Object for Non-Industrial People:
CAD Drawings

"In order to create my chandelier I drew my plans up into CAD Software so that I can easily cut it out in a variety of different materials - Such as Card, Wood & Acrylic."

Prototype 3 :

Cutting my first Lazer-cut prototype out:

Problems with Prototype 3:

  • The plastic that my design was cut out of wasn't thick enough to support my design & was very brittle
  • My design although effective ascetically, allowed stress razors to be built into my design, making it vulnerable to fracture and damage
  • My original prototype(3) wasn't robust enough for practical use as a lighting feature within the home as it could have easily broken at any time, by any slight movement of knock.
"To overcome these problems i altered my design an had it cut in thicker acrylic sheeting, I altered my design adding in extra support and minimising the effect of stress razors in my design. by getting it re-cut out in thicker acrylic it meant that my next model chandelier would be able to withstand more use, the portability of being touched or bumped."

Artist inspiration: Postler Ferguson

"This artist has provide the basis of my inspiration towards my final outcome, I like the idea of providing a practical product which provides functionality as well as innovative design feature for the home or workplace."

"In response too Postler Ferguson work, I intend to create a practical lighting feature that still emulates the form and shape of an existing industrial project as my inspiration."

Postler Ferguson's buoy lamps were created as part of an ongoing investigation into the aesthetics of industrial technology, therefore mirroring our project and my intentions for a final outcome.

Industrial objects for non-industrial people: Initial Idea's 1

Industrial object for non-industrial people:
Initial Ideas: part 1

" I decided that for the re-creation of my V2 Rocket Engine i wanted to use the basic format of the V2 Rocket Engine as the shape for my final re-creation for non-industrial people."

Idea 1: to turn the V2 Rocket Engine into a Pencil Pot.

Examples:

Idea 2: to turn the V2 Rocket Engine into a Children's Drink Cup         with Curly straw.

Examples:

Idea 3: to turn the V2 Rocket Engine into a spot light, lamp or chandelier.

Examples:

"I will take one of these initial ideas forward and continue developing it for my final out come for the project."
